When the electric window won’t work

Failure in the window lift motor/regulator assembly can result in:

• Window stuck in place
• Dropped window (inside door)
• Crooked or uneven window movement
• Grinding or clicking sounds when trying to raise or lower the window

Possible failures in electric window systems

Wear and tear over time, stripped internal gears, or electrical faults can cause the window lift electric motor to fail. Symptoms can include:

• Slow or sluggish movement: the window is taking longer than usual to open or close
• Grinding, clicking, or whining sounds are coming from inside the door
• Complete lack of window movement

Worn cables or snapped plastic clips or pulleys can result in a mechanical failure of the window lift. Symptoms of a snapped or cracked cable include:

• Window slipping and falling into the door
• Window misaligned and getting stuck.

• Window motors are the electric components that provide the rotational power to drive the electric window regulator up or down.
• Window regulators are mechanical assemblies that translate the window motor's power into vertical movement, lifting the glass via gears, cables, and/or scissor arms.
