A door lock actuator is an electric motor-driven device that converts rotational or linear motion into the locking or unlocking of a door. The actuator is connected to a rack-and-pinion assembly that pushes or pulls a rod (depending on the electrical signal) to lock or unlock the door. When a door lock actuator starts to wear out or fail, you may hear grinding, clicking, or no sound at all coming from inside the door when trying to lock or unlock. The lock may work slowly or require several cycles to lock or unlock the door.
