These turbochargers with a water-cooled aluminum or cast steel turbine housing with integrated exhaust manifold have been in high-volume production since 2014. Since 2015, the BMW Group’s 1.5-liter gasoline engines equipped with this turbocharger model have continuously received various honors at the International Engine + Powertrain of the Year Awards. Among them are the awards for International Engine of the Year and awards in the 1.4 to 1.8-liter and under 150 hp classes.

Water-cooled aluminum housing

VDO has been using cutting-edge, highly efficient turbocharger technology for years. One pioneering innovation was developed in cooperation with BMW: the water-cooled turbine housing made from aluminum. It’s almost 30% lighter than conventional turbine housings. Besides high efficiency in terms of torque, fuel consumption and emissions, it offers clear system advantages:
