Monitoring the ideal tire pressure
Correct tire pressure is essential for your vehicle’s roadworthiness and operational safety. If the air pressure is too low, braking distance can be increased and cornering stability impaired. On the other hand, too much air pressure can lead to uneven wear and, in the worst case, a blowout. A tire’s grip on the road will always deteriorate if its pressure is too low or too high.
This is why tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) are highly effective safety systems. Sensors mounted in the wheel measure the tire’s pressure and temperature and send the results to a control unit. If the tire pressure needs to be checked and corrected, visual or acoustic warning signals are sent to the driver.
TPMS by VDO minimize the risks of a tire defect, contribute to fuel savings and help maximize tire life.
Regulation for new vehicles since 2014
According to the EU regulation, a tire pressure monitoring system is mandatory for all new class M1 vehicles registered in Europe (mandatory regulation since November 1, 2014). EU regulation ECE 661/2009 specifies clearly what safety information the system must display:
- It must report a sudden loss of pressure of more than 20% within a period of ten minutes.
- It must warn the driver within 60 minutes if there is a gradual loss of pressure.
- It must function reliably at speeds of 40 km/h and more, up to the top design speed of the vehicle.
TPM sensors in OEM quality
Simple and straightforward
VDO has more than 15 years of experience in the development and production of direct measuring systems and offers model-specific TPM sensors in OEM quality, which is on a par with the installed series product – because only an original can offer the quality and safety that you and your customers deserve.

Our service-kits
VDO service kits contain all the sensor components you could ever need for a tire service, such as a valve core, mounting nut, seal, gasket and a valve cap.

Sensor valve stems
Our spare parts range for tire servicing also includes valve stems for sensor generations 1C and 1D.
